Ember of the Fallen Crown

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Ember of the Fallen Crown is the kind of RPG that respects your time. Battles are turn-based and you can speed them up or auto-resolve the easy ones, so grinding never feels like a chore. The writing carries it, though — the main story has a couple of genuinely sad turns that stuck with me.

Party building is where it gets its hooks in. Each companion has a skill tree that actually changes how they play, and swapping formations before a boss feels like real planning rather than busywork. Touch controls are solid, with big tappable skill icons during combat.

It does lean on energy timers for the side content, which is my one gripe. Battery drain is moderate during cutscenes but reasonable in combat. Bring headphones — the soundtrack is lovely.
