Which Game Genres Are Kindest To Your Battery
If you have ever watched your battery nosedive mid-game, you already know not all genres are equal. We ran a bunch of titles on the same mid-range phone and the pattern was clear and a little obvious in hindsight.
Calm genres win. Card games, slow simulators and most puzzle games barely register on battery because they are not pushing the GPU. I played a card game for an hour and lost less charge than fifteen minutes of racing cost me.
Racing, 3D RPGs and real-time strategy are the big spenders. Fast visuals, lots of effects and constant input all add up, and the phone heats up as a bonus. The fix is almost always in the settings — lower the graphics preset and cap the frame rate.
My practical advice: before a long trip, dig into a game's options first. Drop brightness, turn off haptics you do not need, and pick the balanced graphics mode. You often lose nothing you will notice while doubling your play time.
